MedPro Consulting & Marketing Services has developed a relationship with two ophthalmic charities:

Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity – Pennsylvania Chapter
(

 and

The Himalayan Cataract Project
 (www.cureblindness.org)

Volunteer Optometric Service to Humanity - PA Chapter

Mission: To improve the vision care of needy populations in developing countries by providing primary eye care and by partnering with local eye care specialists and like organizations.

Goal: To eliminate all avoidable causes of blindness from Guatemala by the year 2020

125,000 of Guatemala's poorest people are blind from preventable causes.

For many, travel expenses alone prevent patients from seeking treatment. Those who do manage a trip to a public hospital find consultation fees there to be unaffordable.

There are no government programs that provide prescriptive eyewear for impoverished children.

Those suffering cataract blindness would be able to work again and provide for their families given access to a 20-minute sight-saving procedure

Himalayan Cataract Project

The Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP) is establishing a sustainable eye care infrastructure in the Himalaya that empowers local doctors to provide high-quality ophthalmic care through skills-transfer and education. The HCP responds to a pressing need for eye care in the Himalayan region. Their programs in Nepal, Tibet, China, Bhutan, India, Sikkim, West Bengal, and Pakistan have restored sight to tens of thousands of blind people every year since 1994, and their efficacy is increasing.

By teaching ophthalmic care at all levels, by establishing a first-rate eye care infrastructure through creating and mentoring facilities, by making all of their facilities financially self-sustaining, and by addressing eye care from the public health level up to subspecialty care, HCP’s programs have brought world-class eye care to the people of the Himalaya. They hope to soon cut into the backlog of people blinded by preventable and treatable causes in the region.
